- Weekend in Langhe
“L’estate sta finendo” (Summer is ending), as the famous song goes, and for those who have not yet gone on vacation this is a great time to plan a stay or a weekend away. What better land than Piedmont to go in search of relaxation in the midst of uncontaminated nature or visit ancient villages rising on the top of sweet hills? This region offers many attractions to its visitors every year, especially if they are gourmet travelers!
In Piedmont, in fact, you can live unforgettable moments even while sitting comfortably at the table… With its excellent products and its delicious specialties, Langhe and Piedmont have always been among the most popular destinations in the world for food and wine journeys, especially now that we are slowly approaching the autumn season, famous for offering truly unique flavors to the palate, such as those released by truffles and porcini mushrooms. These two ingredients are among the most characteristic of Piedmontese and Langhe cuisine, and are expertly combined to give life to the most delicious and appreciated typical autumn dishes.
In Crota, near Alba, you can taste many specialties prepared with these fantastic products, and many others that refer with passion to the local culinary tradition. Find out more about us.
Are you planning a weekend in the Langhe and want to have the opportunity to taste the best typical Piedmontese autumn dishes? Stop by our restaurant between Asti and Cuneo, and you can pamper yourself with a tasting of these gastronomic wonders. We will illustrate you some of them.
In order to prepare your stomach for the following delicacies, we suggest our Carpaccio di Fassona with Grana cheese, mustard sauce and black truffle: a triumph of typical flavors prepared with genuine 0-miles raw materials (Fassona beef, a native breed of the region, seasoned with a balanced mix of mustard and black truffle, the undisputed prince of the autumn table).
For those who want to try the incomparable combination of mushrooms and truffle, the Cartoccio of porcini mushrooms, potatoes and black truffle is ideal, because it is extremely simple yet able to enhance the flavor of each ingredient. Another unmissable dish is the the Veal loin in tuna sauce, cooked at low temperature and characterized by great softness and flavor: one of the typical dishes of Piedmont whose celebrity is timeless.
The enchantment of the senses continues with the first courses that best express the elegant character of the Langhe, which at Crota are rigorously homemade in respect of tradition. In autumn, there is nothing better than to enjoy a plate of Tajarin with porcini mushrooms and black truffle, or Raviolini del Plin with ricotta cheese and black truffle, two recipes that will pleasantly introduce you to the history and culture of this territory. Our staff will be happy to show you the unique characteristics of these two magnificent specialties and to suggest the best combinations with the prestigious wines of our cellar.
For those who wish to continue the tasting of typical autumn Piedmontese dishes based on truffles, we can only recommend our Fassona roast-beef with porcini mushrooms, robiola cheese and black truffle and sturgeon tartare with cherry tomatoes, basil and black truffle, other spectacular culinary interpretations of our region. Alternatively, our local rabbit with olives and Pelaverga di Verduno will offer you an original panorama to explore with your palate, as will our Flamed Fassona Fillet with Port and Rabbit Livers with caramelized onions and Marsala wine, original and extremely tasty creations of our chef.
When one thinks of autumn desserts, one’s imagination immediately travels to creations made with chocolate and hazelnuts, two products that in Piedmont perhaps find their happiest expression. At Crota, we offer several desserts in which these ingredients play the leading role, such as Tiramisu semifreddo with hazelnut cookie, Hazelnut cake with zabaglione, moscato and marsala, and Peach, chocolate and amaretti cake with caramelized ice cream.
